Rumor: Nintendo begins hinting at a new controller for mobile gamers

Nintendo held another general meeting with their shareholders and while everything at this meeting was pretty standard, there was one item that wasn’t. During the meeting, the company hinted that they were making a mobile game controller. Of course hinting at something doesn’t necessarily mean that it will happen, so take the following details with a grain of salt.

During the meeting Director and General Manager of Entertainment Planning and Development, Shinya Takahashi hinted that Nintendo was either currently developing a new controller for mobile gaming, or at least considering the option in a somewhat serious manner. Unfortunately his statement is a bit vague but it was specific enough to pick that up.

“Physical controllers for smart device applications are available in the market and it is possible that we may also develop something new by ourselves.”

This could mean a couple of things. For starters, Nintendo is happy with the success they have seen with their current releases onto mobile, as well as the interest for their upcoming titles which are from the Fire Emblem and Animal Crossing franchises. So they are willing to invest more into the mobile gaming platform as a whole. This also means the company is planning to release games that would benefit from a controller, such as platformers or brawlers.

Whatever the case may be, right now nothing is confirmed, so everything could change. We will keep you posted on any details that may emerge.
