Streamer mugged during live stream while playing Pokemon GO in Central Park

There’s been plenty of stories about weird things happening to Pokemon GO players, and sometimes even bad things. However it hasn’t really happened where someone was robbed while live streaming themselves on Twitch, until now of course. Blogger and live streamer Ricky Yaneza was playing Pokemon GO in Central Park when he got mugged during his live stream.

Ricky Yaneza was on his way to a hot spot in Central Park (Grand Army Plaza) known for its Pokemon in order to catch a Snorlax, and while he was trying to catch a different Pokemon while on the way there, a guy approached Yaneza at around 12:45am from behind and did a total bitch move and sucker punched him in the face, then essentially clothes-lining him and knocking him down. While on the ground, the guy then proceeded to grab whatever he could from Yaneza including his phone, before running off into the night like a real coward does. Fortunately the entire event was streamed live so there’s plenty of video evidence to catch out, which you can do below.

Ironically, to make things worse, Twitch ended up suspended Yaneza’s Twitch account because it violated the Terms of Service Twitch has, stating that he was broadcasting non-gaming related content when the mugging happened. Honestly, that’s pretty bad on Twitches part. Yaneza ended up having three phones taken from him, which were visible and that he was using as his live streaming setup. When you watch the video, you’ll see the assailant wearing some headgear which Yaneza suspects was to make him “look like he’s part of the geeks there. He was probably stalking the area knowing people were there playing Pokémon [GO]”.

This was Yaneza ninth day streaming ever, but he plans to get back to it once he heals, and obviously gets new equipment. Of course his Twitch channel needs restoring as well. If you plan to go out at night and play Pokemon GO, make sure to stay safe as it doesn’t matter if you’re live streaming or not. In case you were wondering if this was set up, the New York Police Dept did confirm it happened, but do not have anyone in custody yet.
