Spil Games has been brought on board to develop the official Valerian movie game

Luc Besson’s upcoming $180 million dollar Sci-Fi film Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets will be getting it’s own official mobile game which will be developed by Spil Games. The movie itself won’t be hitting theaters until July 2017 and the official game will be a strategy game based off of the film.

The movie, Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets, is actually a re-imagining of the hugely popular comic stories called Valérian and Laureline that was created by Pierre Christin and Jean-Claude Mezieres in 1967. However, details about the game are slim as it isn’t even slated for release until a few weeks before the movie hits theaters, so development is at about the earliest stages it could possibly be at.

“It’s no longer enough to make a game that just mimics the movie. Yes, players want to dig further into the story but the game also has to be cool and fun to play in its own right. The producers of the New Hollywood understand that a game which captivates its audience can massively amplify a movie brand.” – Tung Nguyen-Khac, Spil Games’ CEO

Spil Games has about 65 titles available on Google Play already, so this will be another addition to their catalog, and a pretty big one at that. Once more details are out about this game, we will post an update.
