Reigns will be getting a sequel while the original will be getting new cards soon

Back in August of last year a rather unique game got released called Reigns. Since then it has done pretty well for itself, so much so that the original game will be getting an expansion of sorts, adding new cards to the game. On top of that, there will also be a sequel for Reigns coming out soon that will allow players to play as a Queen.

For those of you not familiar with this game, Reigns has players assuming the role of a monarch (kind or cruel, it’s up to the player) who must balance the requests and needs of differing and competing factions. To further complicate matters within the game, players will see the consequences of their decisions impact the game, the further along they go. These consequences can become dire enough to put the royal family, and its hold on the throne, at risk.

The creator of Reigns, Francis Alliot, mentioned in a recent interview that they have been working on a bit of an expansion, which will add a few new cards for players to use, as well as a few new maps to play on. This is just to beef up the amount of content in Reigns and give players some fresh material to play with while the developers work on the newly announced sequel, Reigns 2.

The sequel will have players not taking the role of a King, like the original game, but as a Queen instead. The time period is also different in the upcoming sequel, with Reigns 2 taking place in the 1700s instead of the medieval era. Without going into too much details about the sequel, the developers mentioned that it will focus on the more “feminine” powers, and what they had to deal with when ruling.

Reigns 2 will be launching possibly in Q1/Q2 of this year, although there is nothing set in stone as the game is still in development. This also goes for the upcoming expansion for the original Reigns as well. When we have more details, we will post an update.
