5 Android gaming stories you should have read this week

Sunday is a day of rest for everyone except us. We like to spend the Lord’s day creating a digest of all the Android gaming news you should have read this week but didn’t. Or perhaps you did and just came here to be reminded. That’s fine too.

This week saw the arrival of some big games, as well as a few juicy discounts, one of which you’ve already missed so we won’t taunt you by including it below.

Thimbleweed Park came out

Thimbleweed Park

We’ve written about Thimbleweed Park so much lately that we’ve managed to commit the main details to memory. It’s a skateboarding game developed by Peter Molyneux and set in the Scottish Highlands.

Wait, no, we’re not allowed to talk about that one yet.

Thimbleweed Park is actually a pixel-art point and click adventure developed by Ron Gilbert, very much in the style of very game that made him a legend in these parts: The Secret of Monkey Island. It’s a must for any gaming enthusiast.

EVE Online is coming to mobile (sort of)

Even if you don’t play EVE Online, it’s fascinating to read about the evolution of the game’s open universe, where millions of players have formed themselves into gigantic clans that fight, infiltrate, sabotage, and grief other clans in an endless cycle of meaningless violence.

Sadly, this is the greatest evidence we have that humans are innately awful. Last week CCP announced a mobile spin-off of EVE Online called Project Aurora. Details are still thin on the ground, but at the very least it looks like you’ll be able to play a version of EVE on the bus, which is a good thing.

Crap! I’m Broke is half-price

This is the discount you didn’t miss. Crap! I’m Broke is a super-stylish, cubist representation of extreme poverty in which you have to scramble to earn enough money to cover your rent in a hand to mouth existence that would not be remotely enjoyable in real life but somehow is in videogame form.

For a presumably limited time, Crap! I’m Broke is available for 99p, down from its usual price of £1.99. That means it costs less than normal to experience poverty, which is pretty ironic if you think about it.

Bruce Lee is coming to Heroes Evolved

Heroes Evolved developer Reality Squared has revealed that Bruce Lee will be the first of many pop culture figures to be introduced to its popular MOBA Heroes Evolved.

As we all know, Bruce Lee is the hardest person who ever lived, so we don’t know where the franchise can go from here, but that’s not our problem to solve. Bruce will have his own special moves, of course, and you can get him for free by completing three in-game challenges before he arrives on October 18th.

Niantech is holding a #PokemonGOcontest on Instagram

Pokemon Go is a great use of AR, though the game works perfectly well without it and many players choose not to bother. In an attempt to encourage them, developer Niantech is holding a Pokemon Go picture contest on Instagram.

All you have to do is take a picture of a Pokemon in an amusing real-world setting and upload it to Instagram with the hashtag #PokemonGOcontest to submit your entry. There are currently 17,784 pictures up there, and the number is rising fast.

The competition closes on October 25th.
