Is Cyber Hunter your next gaming obsession?

Cyber Hunter could well be the next big hit in the battle royale genre. The creation of Chinese developer NetEase, it’s an ambitious battle royale game for mobile that looks great and adds a few intriguing twists to the formula.

But let’s start with the basics. The game takes place in a huge 6x6km open world map, and you start each round by dropping into this map from the sky. Once you’ve landed, your aim is simply to be the last person standing – which is easier said than done.

During a round you can get up to all sorts, such as driving a vehicle, gliding through the air, swimming, destroying buildings, shooting people, hiding, and more.

The swimming and gliding are essential to Cyber Hunter’s appeal. By taking to the air or diving under the water you can give yourself a massive advantage. It allows you to attack your enemies vertically as well as horizontally.

The vehicles are interesting, too, not least because some of them transform into other vehicles. For instance, the Windrider becomes a plane, while the Cerberus becomes – wait for it – a mech.

This is all fine, but what really makes Cyber Hunter stand out is its novel Quantum Cube Energy. Along with Quantum Droids, this energy allows you to do game-changing stuff like build a watchtower, create a fortress, and even make a drone for spying on your enemies.

You have five different types of weapon to master – the usual selection of SMG, shotgun, rifle, sniper rifle, and throwable – and special attacks too, so there’s plenty of scope for finding a combination that works for you.

You can upgrade your weapons, too, and this is where things get really interesting. While it’s possible to take a weapon and make it even more destructive, such as by turning your grenade launcher into an all out building-demolisher, you can also turn your shotgun into a magical healing wand. Lovely.

That’s not all you can customise either. Your character can be created in your image by selecting from a range of eyes, face, makeup and hair. You can adjust your avatar even further by adjusting the colour of pupils, as well as the makeup of eyebrows, lips, and hairs. A range of Outfits, personalized moves, and weapon and vehicle paints are also available to choose from as well.

While Cyber Hunter isn’t quite out yet, you can hop onto the open beta right now. Click here to take a look.
