It’s magic vs technology with innovative strategy-RPG Robot Tactics

In the real world, robots are a far cry from the sophisticated machines you see in films like Star Wars and Terminator. Actual robots do boring things like picking shopping orders in giant warehouses and putting doors on cars in factories.

That’s why it’s always best to get your robot fix in videogame form. Take Robot Tactics, a futuristic RPG strategy game containing giant mechs fighting to the death. It’s basically a war-chess title, and even has a bit of magic thrown in for good measure.

Let’s start with story. The action takes place in Sunset Land, which isn’t as pleasant a place as it sounds. A war has been raging there for a century, between the technologically sophisticated United States of Honir and the magically advanced Paz Kings Union.

Mr Roboto

This is a game which has been designed with anime nuts in mind too, with several Japanese actors and actresses voicing many of the characters.

Your overall goal in Robot Tactics is to bring an end to this generations-spanning war using the only tool at your disposal: a fleet of powerful mechs.

What that means in practice is that you need to create and upgrade a mech, using components that you earn by completing tasks and killing enemies.

Do the Robot Tactics

On top of your own mech you’re responsible for a squad of other mechs, since you’re the leader of the Vera Mercenaries. You command these mechs in single-player battles and battles with human opponents, either one on one in the PvP, or many versus many in the GvG, choosing formations and executing attacks in true Napoleon style.

There’s a single player campaign to go with the multiplayer. This sees you making your way through a series of tasks, growing ever more powerful and experienced as you defeat a progressively more challenging range of opponents. It’s a great way to level-up and hone your skills for the multiplayer.

What we like about Robot Tactics is the variety on offer. There are small PvP scraps, but massive GvG build battles too. There’s an RPG progression system, but also plenty of tight tactical gameplay. There are stylish 2D graphics, but also high tech 3D graphics.

And, of course, there’s the all important combo: robots and magic. How will these titanic forces interact? Download Robot Tactics for free on Google Play (and the App Store!) to find out. You can check out the game’s official Facebook page here too.
