The Witcher: Monster Slayer is a Free-to-Play, AR. Location-Based RPG, Coming Soon to Android

CD Projekt has just announced The Witcher: Monster Slayer, a free-to-play augmented reality RPG drawing on the hugely popular Witcher franchise.

Developed and published by Spokko, a “member of the CD Projekt family”, The Witcher: Monster Slayer sees players wandering around in the real world picking off monsters on the screens of their smartphones. It’s basically Pokemon GO, without the pockets.

The real world is your sandbox, but the imaginary action takes place on the Continent, hundreds of years before the arrival of Geralt of Rivia, with you assuming the mantle of Witcher.

Details are still thin on the ground, but CD Projekt promises “console-grade visuals” and the ability to use real life weather conditions to your advantage. It also sees you brewing potions, studying monsters, crafting bombs, making bait, and upgrading everything.

As well as the standard first-person monster harrying you’ll also get to do story-driven quests as you strive to become a professional monster slayer.

The Witcher: Monster Slayer is coming to Android “soon”.
