PortalOne has opened its waitlist for its soft launch in the US and Canada.
There’s a good chance that you’re not aware of PortalOne, but you will be. This innovative hybrid platform, which combines gaming and video content into a single product, attracted $15 million in seed funding earlier this year from an assortment of tech industry giants (including the founders of Twitch, Blizzard, and Riot Games, and even Atari itself), and it’s set to shake up the scene in the coming months.
PortalOne is being pitched as a distinct category of digital entertainment in which gameplay and video content are seamlessly intertwined.
The platform’s first format is PortalOne Arcade, a slick, neon-soaked gaming app that lets you win prizes and runs regular in-game Arcade Shows. These shows feature various guest stars, including pop culture icons like Justin Bieber.
Sure, you’ve watched video content in games before, with concerts and other events taking place in Roblox, Fortnite, and so on. But PortalOne is different. Here, you’re actually competing with the guest star, as well as all of your fellow players.
At the moment there are two arcade games on the platform – Blockbuster and an enhanced version of the classic Centipede – with many more set to join the roster in the coming months.
PortalOne has signed an exclusive global distribution agreement with Atari, so you can expect a steady stream of arcade classics to make their way to the PortalOne platform in super-sized form.
In addition, PortalOne is working on its own proprietary software so that third-party developers can add their own content to the platform.
There are prizes on offer, too, with a lot of ways to win. You’ll take home cash if you can manage to bag the highest combined Top 5 scores during a daily 24-hour tournament, or if you manage to make it into the Top Ten on that day’s leaderboard. Plus, there’s a Lucky Winner prize every day, available to everyone who logs in to play. There are also special prizes to win during the Arcade Show (every Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday) and even a Season Grand Prize worth $5000.
