Okay, so technically it came out in some places in 2020, but it didn’t get a full global release until 2021, so it still counts. And besides, if ever there was a mobile game that deserved recognition in two years worth of GOTY consideration, Wild Rift is probably it.
The game is a mobile-specific version of the legendary MOBA, with a few tweaks and a UI designed from the ground-up to work on touchscreen. The end result? The best MOBA on the Play Store.
There’s always a game waiting, and the balancing is impeccable. You can pick it up and get stuck in, but there’s a ridiculous level of depth to explore if you want to duke it out with the best players.
This isn’t an afterthought or a half-arsed cash in, it isn’t a sloppy port or a dull reinterpretation. It’s a fantastic, fully-featured MOBA that looks gorgeous, plays brilliantly and strikes all of the right notes.
If you want to play a MOBA on your phone, then this is hands-down the best option. And all the while it manages to be a brilliant introduction to the genre too. And on top of all that, it’s dangerously addictive.
