You’d be hard pressed to find a better turn-based strategy series in the modern era than XCOM. And this complete collection includes the second game and all the DLC that was ever released for it.
There have been tweaks to ensure the game works on touchscreen, but they don’t detract from the hardcore tactics that underlie everything here. This is a game that forces you to think before you shoot.
There’s a superb story that pushes the action along, alongside the emergent stories you’ll tell of your team as you battle through alien hordes, trying to save the world.
It’s gorgeous, it’s paced brilliantly, and there’s enough game here that after hours of play you’ll only have just started to scratch the surface. This is a meaty experience, in all the ways that can mean things.
Sure, it might have been out on home systems for a while and sure, you might need a super powerful phone or tablet to play it. But all the same, this is an astounding achievement and an enthralling way to spend weeks of your life.
