There are a few arcade racers on the Play Store worth your time, but the general thrust of driving games over the past few years has been tippy-tappy drag blasts. Not so with Hot Lap League, which has just landed on Android.
The game sees you pelting through a series of timed challenges, steering your way through tight tracks to try and get the best time. Accelerating might be taken out of your hands, but you’ve got a powerslide button and getting a perfect run is super tough.
There’s plenty of thrills here, as you chase the extra seconds that are going to move you up the leaderboard. There are shades of Ridge Racer and other games here, and that’s always a good thing. Here’s a trailer.
There are 150 tracks to drive on, as well as daily challenges that see you competing with other players to win big prizes. You can upgrade your cars, and customize them with different decals, wheels and more.
The whole package comes together to create something that offers plenty of white-knuckle fun. And it’s a premium release as well – the game will set you back $4.99.
