The Best New Games for Android This Week – Loopy Wizard, Crux: The Great Outdoors and More

Ah Saturday, with your golden-hued possibilities and crushing truths about the distance back to work. What would we do without you, eh? Probably not have space to write up a weekly round-up of the best games that have landed on the Play Store.

This week everything is premium. These are cash-down-up-front, no ads or IAPs kinda games, so that’s good. One of them also lets you create the first atoms in the universe and lead them all the way to an intergalactic empire. How’s that for content?

You can click on the names of the games below to download them from the Play Store. And if you’ve got your own favorite new release you’d like to wax lyrical about, do it in the comments why don’tcha?

Macrocosm

This one sees you working your way through seven different stages of life – from atomic creation to conquering the cosmos. Each section is its own mini-game, from tower defense to rhythm action and massive strategy. It’s got dinosaurs in it as well.

Loopy Wizard

A roguelite from the developer behind the excellent Seven Scrolls. You’re a wizard with an array of spells at your disposal. Those spells work on a magic clock, which moves its hands to the next power when you’ve used the previous one. There’s puzzling and adventure and just the right amount of weirdness.

Super Sideckicks ACA NeoGeo

A classic kick-about arcade game that might not have the flash and pizzazz of modern games, but is still a whole wedge of dribbling, goal-scoring fun. It’s got all the usual ACA NeoGeo trappings, and a good dollop of grass-tinged nostalgia.

Grammarian Ltd

A simulation game that essentially sees you taking on the role of an editor. You’re checking missives for grammatical errors, and learning some along the way. It’s lovely to look at, and you’ll leave it smarter than you started. What’s not to like about that?

Crux: The Great Outdoors

A sequel to possibly the finest climbing puzzler ever created. Clamber over handholds and footholds to reach the top of a series of routes in the great outdoors. It takes a while to get used to the controls, but when it clicks this is a thing of beauty.
