About Bonds
Bonds are a handy new item that the devs introduced in the last major update. It’s a currency that persists beyond your particular run. You can use it in the lobby area to pick up new classes or items that you’ll start with on your next run. (Keep in mind that, unlike the gamepass items, these only last a single run, so try to think hard about what you want to use them for.
Still, it sets up really well for a new run.
How To Get Bonds
Let’s run over a few ways to get Bonds.
Banks
There are several ways to pick up bonds in-game so far, and one is through the bank vaults. You should find them in there alongside the gold and silver. If you’re not sure how to find and open bank vaults, we’ll outline that below.
- You usually find banks inside towns inside towns. You should find at least one of these in between forts, but you may not find a bank in every town. You can tell a bank by its pink-red bricks.
- Banks contain vaults, and to open them, you need a vault code.
- Vault codes are found on zombies wearing top hats. There should be one near the bank. Once taken out, the zombie drops a bank code.
- Memorize the code, or carry it along with you, then enter this code by turning the wheel of the bank vault door.
- With the correct combination, the vault door should swing open, allowing you access to all the goodies inside, including bonds.
Looting
Bonds rarely appear in normal buildings during looting, though also appear in the following structures nearly every time they spawn.
- Fort Constitution
- Castle
Completing Runs And Challenges
You can earn Bonds also by completing full runs, and by fulfilling Challenges, which you can find on the Challenge Board in the Dead Rails lobby. Each Challenge will list its reward in Bonds.
