You can play Dead Rails right now over on Roblox. If you’d like some tips on getting started, maybe take a look at our guide on how to play Dead Rails.

Dead Rails Weapons Guide

If you want to survive long on your trip to the border, you’ll need to learn about the different weapons and what they’re best used for. Let’s run over each of them…. just like we run over werewolves with the train.

Revolver

  • Purchase Cost: $35
  • Ammunition Type: Revolver Ammo

A basic, low-damage firearm option. It’s not powerful, but it is cheap and easily available at the Gunsmith in nearly every fort.

Shovel/Pickaxe/Hammer

  • Purchase Cost: N/A
  • Ammunition Type: N/A

The default melee weapon range you can start with. These have a change to knock the enemy down and stall them briefly. These are useful backup if you run out of ammo, but we don’t recommend using them unless you don’t have much of an alternative.

Tomahawk

  • Purchase Cost: N/A
  • Ammunition Type: N/A

Another, better melee weapon found in houses or around outlaw camps.

Cavalry Sword

  • Purchase Cost: N/A
  • Ammunition Type: N/A

Another melee weapon upgrade often found around camps.

Mauser

  • Purchase Cost: N/A (Available by Robux gamepass)
  • Ammunition Type: Revolver Ammo

A small pistol that does similar damage to the revolver, but lets you have ten shots ready at one time, notably more than the revolver. You can sometimes find it in buildings.

Navy Revolver

  • Purchase Cost: N/A
  • Ammunition Type: Revolver Ammo

An upgrade on the revolver and mauser that does notably more damage.

Shotgun

  • Purchase Cost: $50
  • Ammunition Type: Shotgun Ammo

A close-range firearm that can do a lot of damage, and one shot zombies. You do need them to get fairly close though. Can be bought at Gunsmith shops, or sometimes found in ruined sheriff offices.

Sawed Off Shotgun

  • Purchase Cost: N/A (Available by Robux gamepass)
  • Ammunition Type: Shotgun Ammo

A shorter, notably more powerful version of the shotgun. You can find these in houses from time to time.

Rifle

  • Purchase Cost: $75
  • Ammunition Type: Rifle Ammo

One of the more effective guns you can get from a gunsmith, the rifle can one shot most zombies from a distance, if you can land a head hit. It’s an excellent go-to weapon if you can afford it.

Bolt-Action Rifle

  • Purchase Cost: N/A
  • Ammunition Type: Rifle Ammo

A variation on the rifle that serves as a small upgrade, giving faster reload times. Mind you, the rifle was a pretty great gun to begin with.

Molotov

  • Purchase Cost: N/A
  • Ammunition Type: N/A

Sometimes found in buildings, this thrown explosive is a one use item that can caused localized devastation. Useful for large hordes.

Turret

  • Purchase Cost: $125
  • Ammunition Type: Turret Ammo

Unlike the other gunsmith weapons, the turret is mounted on the train through the welding function. Load it by welding ammo boxes next to it. This this is a fast-firing weapon that tears into high-HP monsters through rate of fire alone, but be careful, this means it eats ammo like a zombie eats… you if you run out of ammo.

Vampire Knife

  • Purchase Cost: N/A
  • Ammunition Type: N/A

A rare melee weapon found in dangerous castle structures. This knife comes with a special ability. It heals you while damaging the enemy. The perfect combination!

Holy Water

  • Purchase Cost: N/A
  • Ammunition Type: N/A

A more godly variation on the molotov, these are found in churches inside towns, and deal some great damage against groups of monsters.

Crucifix

  • Purchase Cost: N/A
  • Ammunition Type: N/A

Found in churches, this little gold cross acts like a regular held item rather than like a weapon. However, if you hold it against a monster, it’s immediately struck with divine retribution, taking it out in one hit. The crucifix is a one-use item, so don’t drop it for just any old zombie.
