Whether you’re a recluse looking for a dark place to hide, or after hunting an antisocial fish, this Fisch Absolute Darkness Event guide is here to help! Here, I tell you what this event brings forward and how best to prepare for it.

Fisch Absolute Darkness Event
Added with The Depths update, the Absolute Darkness event only spawns within this new area and lasts a shy 10 minutes. And, as implied by the name, it is impossible to navigate. During its forecast in The Depths, a small radius in a body of water will dimly glow a faint yellow/gold amongst the expansive blackness seen everywhere else.
Inside this yellow section, players can obtain the first living Exotic rarity fish in Fisch, the Ancient Depth Serpent. Outside of Absolute Darkness, it doesn’t appear at all in The Depths, or any other body of water. Before travelling to The Depths in hunt of this rare and untimed event and fish, I recommend buying a Lantern and Fish Radar.
- Lantern – Obtained from the Lantern Keeper at the peak of Moosewood (near the Lighthouse) for 1,000 C$.
- Attaches to the player’s waist and provides minimal lighting when in dark areas.
- Fish Radar – Obtained from Moosewood Docks for 8,000 C$.
- When active, it highlights ‘abundance’ boxes where some species prefer to spawn.
Ancient Depth Serpent
Currently, Fisch has no Totem to trigger the Absolute Darkness event meaning if you travel down there, you may be waiting a while. Additionally, to enter The Depths, the Exotic rarity Depths Key must be fished from Strange Whirlpools or Vertigo beforehand.
And, once there, leaving or re-joining the game will place you back at your spawn outside of The Depths and the Vertigo door leading to The Depths locks again… With so many specifics needed just to potentially encounter the Ancient Depth Serpent, you’ll want to ensure you have its preferences memorised to increase your odds.
- Preferred Bait: Truffle Worm
- Time: Night
- Use a Sundial Totem from Sunstone Island (2,000C$) to alter the day/night cycle. The Totem pops on use, so take a few!
- Weather: Any/No preference
- Season: Any/No preference
Top Tip: Remember the Fish Radar I mentioned earlier? Make sure to turn it on when the Absolute Darkness event triggers as it will show a box over the spawn radius where the Ancient Depth Serpent is lurking. Even after the yellow circle vanishes, the box will stay for a few minutes, giving you extra time.
