Minecraft. It’s safe to say, it’s pretty popular. The sandbox phenomenon has developed so much over the years that you can now explore more than 800 blocks and 84 different mobs.
But there’s a whole lot more to the game than most players know. So we’ve teamed up with our friends at GGSel – where you can grab a Minecraft Steam key from – to talk over just a few of the secrets lying in the game’s vast world.
Go Fishing in the Rain
Did you know your fishing success rate jumps up when storm clouds roll in? Rain boosts your chances of catching fish by 40%, meaning you can spend less time waiting and more time raking in loot.
The right enchantments make rainy weather fishing even better too. Lure cuts down your wait time for example, and Luck of the Sea helps you catch valuable items.
Cactus Trash Cans
A cactus trash can may well solve all your item disposal needs. This secret destroys items permanently, but be careful with valuable materials like Netherite when using the spiky plant.
Building steps involve digging a 3×3 area two blocks deep, removing the block in the middle of this area, placing sand in the center block position, putting a cactus on top of the sand, filling in the corner blocks around the hole, and adding trapdoors on each side facing inwards toward the hole.
Clone Blocks

Creative mode builders often miss this huge time-saver. You can copy any block by looking at it and clicking your scroll wheel instead of searching through the inventory menu.
This handy minecraft feature works with every block in the game world too. Holding Ctrl while using the pick block function (clicking the scroll wheel) preserves the block’s data. Cloned chests keep their original contents, perfect to duplicate complex builds or redstone contraptions.
If you don’t have a mouse, you can change the Pick Block control in game settings to any keyboard key or controller button as well.
Wolves vs Skeletons
Tamed wolves do more than just follow you around, they’re natural skeleton hunters. And you can use this to your advantage. These loyal companions will chase down and attack skeletons without any commands from you.
This makes wolves incredibly useful especially when you have to explore at night or raid dungeons. They’ll even attack strays (the frozen skeleton variants), which makes them perfect companions in snowy biomes.
Minecart Hopping
Minecart hoppers are a great way to get items way beyond what standard hoppers can do. They can help you collect items through solid blocks, which makes them perfect for farms and automatic collection systems. These minecarts collect items really fast – 20 items per second, which is eight times faster than regular hoppers.
These versatile tools can grab items from containers above them or pick up dropped items above the tracks. You can turn off collection by running over a powered activator rail, giving you full control of your automated systems.
