How To Play Sorcery
Let’s talk about what you need to get started.
Creating Your Character
The first thing you do on starting a new run of Sorcery is create a character. Appearance and gender don’t really matter much other than cosmetics, but one choice does. Sorcerers and Curses have a different hub world, and have some different Missions, though you can learn mostly the same techniques. If you want to part up with friends, you should all be either Sorcerers or Curses.
Missions And Grades
Once you’ve made a character and completed the tutorial, you should get transported to the Hideout, your hub world. You start as an Initiate, and you can rise through the grades by leveling up. How do you level up? By completing Missions. These are found, unsurprisingly, through the door marked ‘Missions’.

There are three types of Missions.
- Exterminations
- For Sorcerers, take out all Curses on the map.
- For Curses, take out and consume all humans on the map.
- Cursed Object
- Find a Cursed Object on the map with your Cursed Sense and interact with it with G, keep hitting G to imbue it with your blood until the timer runs down.
- Hostage Retrieval
- Use your Cursed Sense to locate hostages hidden around the map. Pick them up with V and take them to a drop-off point marked on your map.
Stats
Missions reward you with XP and items. When you return from Missions, you can use the mattresses to invest points you earned into your stats. This lets you unlock new moves and generally makes you more powerful. If you’d like to learn more about that, maybe take a peek at our Sorcery Stats guide.
Getting Your Cursed Technique
Around Level 50, you should start getting sent to the Dream World between missions. Here you can unlock your Cursed Technique, if you’re able to find your Inner Soul and beat the obby. Take a look at our Sorcery Cursed Technique guide.
The Level Cap And Beyond
From here, keep doing Missions to level. Eventually, you will get Level 99, the first cap. From there, you need to enter The Culling Games and the world of PVP. You can head to the Open World and to the Culling Games area to get into that, but by then, you’re definitely not a beginner anymore.
