After surviving the incredibly long intro, pick your Tanorian and explore the world! You can compete in tournaments, against other players, or simply explore and shiny hunt! The journey is entirely yours to decide.

How To Shiny Hunt Starters In Tales of Tanorio
To begin, I’d recommend going into the menu setting in the bottom left and opening up the settings. Here you can toggle a few things, but the main focus should be heading to Audio Settings and turning off Voice Acting. This doesn’t increase the shiny hunt chances, instead, it speeds everything up a significant amount.
Turning off voice acting allows you to spam-click through dialogue and hurry the process along in choosing your first Tanorio. During the cut scene which showcases each starter Tanorio interacting with one another before coming to the edge of the enclosure, you will be able to tell if a Tanorio is shiny. Shiny Tanorio’s have a different coloured pelt as well as a white sparkle aura around their body.
If your Tanorio of choice isn’t shiny, hit escape and exit the game. Upon rejoining you’ll be entered back into the beginning of the cut scene where you are introduced to each Tanorian starter. You can redo this as many times as needed until a shiny is located.
What Is The Significance Of Shinies?
Shiny hunting is only worth doing if you can handle the grind and constant resetting. If rewatching the same cut scene multiple times over won’t make you go delirious then yes! Shinies may not offer more stat buffs, but these extremely rare cosmetics look fantastic and are a subtle flex to other players.
Chaining Tricks
When changing any Tanorian you may want to keep this information on hand to know your best chances:
- Chains max out at 1k encounters
- Shiny base odds are 1/2000, once the chain hits around 500 this number drops to 1/256 (Legendaries exempt)
- Wild shinies that spawn in the grass cannot reset your chain unless it is the same Tanorian as your chain
- Catching a different species of Tanorian will ALWAYS reset your chain
- Defeating a different species of Tanorian with a chain less than 50 will reset the chain, over 50 will not reset the chain
- Legendaries have an increased multiplier for shiny chains meaning fewer encounters for the 1/256 base odds.
