Asobimo is about to enter the growing Genshin Impact-like market with its gorgeous new MMORPG, Metria. You can download it right now on Google Play, with servers due to go live tomorrow, November 7.
As you can tell from the screenshots, Metria borrows a ton from Genshin Impact. The promotional art, which is our featured image, looks exactly like that OG Genshin screenshot featuring the Traveler surveying the landscape.
Metria Does Look Like Genshin Impact!
Visually, it looks like a cross between Genshin and Asoobimo’s own Toram Online. It’s colourful but with retro-style 3D visuals. Imagine Breath of the Wild reimagined for the GameCube era, and you’re along the right lines.
The similarities extend to gameplay too. You play as an amnesiac hero who wakes up in a mysterious land, and has to befriend the locals. This is where the gacha system comes in, as you can summon those you meet to join you in combat.
Alongside your main character, you can swap to three others in combat. You can perform regular attacks, as well as ‘Super Special Moves’. Apparently the timing of character switches plays a huge role in combat, but we’ll have to wait to see it in action.
It Seems More Traditional RPG Fantasy Than Genshin
The character models are a huge step up from the environments, and do look ripped right out of Genshin. The clothing is a little more typically old school fantasy fare, as do the weapons. It’s still JRPG-style huge weapons and that, but a lot more muted and realistic.
That’s all we know about Metria so far, but I’m personally very excited to check it out when it launches tomorrow. I want to know how the exploration and multiplayer works, and how involved the story is to the experience.
