The console landscape is a complex one, but the PlayStation 5 is undeniably in a strong position right now.
Released back on November 12th 2020, it has been in the market for nearly five years. But is it worth the investment if you’ve not purchased one yet? We’ve teamed up with Startselect to look at what you should consider if you’re looking to buy Sony’s system.
Check the Price
Even though the PS5 has been around a while its core price has remained largely the same. Impressive, but not great for bargain hunters.
There are exceptions to this rule though, and we recommend you keep an eye out for bundles. You can also nab PSN credit for less via reputable platforms that sell gift cards – such as the PSN Card through Startselect.
Digital or Physical?
The PS5 comes in two main models. The usual one reads discs while the other all-digital model does not support the disc drive.
When buying the PS5 you’ll notice the model without a disc drive comes at a lower price, but means that you have to buy all the games online – as well as always have a stable and fast internet connection to support your titles.
This can add up in the long run, so the iteration with a disc drive is the far better option if you want an all-convenient gaming experience.
Which Games Do You Want to Play?
The PS5 is one of the most powerful consoles available today, but before purchasing make sure the games you want to play are not currently supported.
The Switch may have an indie title Sony’s console doesn’t for example, despite boasting far less power under the hood. So make sure you check the system’s current library of games so you can justify the purchase.
Ultimately the PS5 is a huge improvement from its predecessors when it comes to power. But make sure that there are enough games you want to play on it – and that you get the disc drive edition if there are, so you’re not restricted when it comes to how you can play these titles!
