Plug In Digital has released a new game on Android. It’s the digital version of the popular board game Abalone. It’s the game with a hexagonal board filled with black and white marbles. But in this digital version, things are getting a bit more colourful than just black and white.

In case you haven’t heard about Abalone, let me tell you a bit about it. Designed by Michel Lalet and Laurent Lévi in 1987, the board game was officially published in 1990. It’s a two-player abstract strategy game that became quite popular in the 90s.

You and your opponent each get 14 marbles, either black or white. You take turns nudging them around a 61-space hexagonal board. The idea is to push six of your rival’s marbles off the edge.

What About the Digital Version of Abalone?

In the mobile version, the core mechanics are the same. You get to customise your settings, pick the style of your marbles, board, and frame, and even adjust the rules to suit your taste.

The interface is pretty clean and intuitive. If you played the tabletop original, you’ll definitely like it. And if you didn’t, Abalone mobile is fairly approachable as well.

There are different modes in the game, like you can get AI opponents or play with other players in the multiplayer modes. So, if you’re ready to outmanoeuvre, push off and protect your marbles, you can check the game out from the Google Play Store.
