Shadow Council PTY has entered the closed alpha testing for Afterglow. It’s their upcoming mobile sandbox MMORPG set in a grim yet neon post-apocalyptic future. The visuals look quite eccentric, so let me give you all the details of how you can get in on it.

How to join the Afterglow closed alpha testing?

The alpha test is live now. To join it, you can sign up through the official playtesting access request form provided by Shadow Council PTY. Once you’re in, you’ll also get links to a testing guide, terms and conditions.

They’ve also prepared an anonymous feedback form where you can share your thoughts directly with the developers. It’s your shot to explore Afterglow before the wider public, help improve its systems, and contribute to how the final game will look.

What’s the story?

Set 77 years after a catastrophic nuclear war, Afterglow is set in the American Southwest. Your character arrives as a refugee trying to carve out a new life in a world stripped of order and comfort.

Unlike traditional MMORPGs, Afterglow offers a semi-idle experience. You can jump in for quick five-minute sessions, assign actions to their squad, and then log off while the game continues running tasks in the background.

The game lets you explore and interact with the Wasteland in multiple ways. You can send your characters to scavenge old villages, hunt for resources, or fight off hostile groups. Combat plays out in a strategic turn-based style on a separate screen.

Visually, Afterglow is a mix of post-apocalyptic and 1980s synthwave style. There are endless deserts, rusty salvaged tech, bright neon signs flickering in the dark, and cassette tapes from another era. The vibe is harsh and DIY, as the world is built on scarcity.

Some more features will be added to Afterglow after this phase of closed alpha testing is over. Meanwhile, you can read our next scoop on Watcher of Realms 2nd Anniversary.
