Android will finally be getting its first official Magic the Gathering game soon

Wizards of the Coast have announced the next installment to their mobile Magic the Gathering series of games. The new game, called Magic 2014: Duels of the Planeswalkers is slated to be released not just on iOS this time but onto Android as well. This marks the first time an official Magic the Gathering game will be arriving for Android gamers to play.

For those of you who are not familiar with Magic the Gathering, this game started off quite a few years ago as an actual physical TCG (Trading Card Game) and it really took off. In fact you can pretty much thank the Magic the Gathering franchise for all of the other TCG titles that exist today. Wizards of the Coast eventually brought the franchise to iOS where it has remained, with no Android love at all.

Magic 2014: Duels of the Planeswalkers will be changing all of this though and is slated for release onto Android as well as iOS. In fact the franchise has been available on pretty much every platform but Android up until now.

The Magic: The Gathering – Duels of the Planeswalkers franchise has been engaging and exciting gamers since we launched in 2009 and continues to be the best way for new players to learn how to play Magic. This year, with the addition of a fifth platform – Android – along with new features and a more focused integration between online and offline play, we continue to deliver a best-in-class gaming experience. – Worth Wollpert, Wizards of the Coast’s executive producer

For those of you who have actually played the previous Magic games on whatever platform in the past, Magic 2014 will feature a whole new storyline, 10 new decks, 15 new encounters, an entirely new game mode and plenty of new puzzles to take on.

If you happen to be roaming around PAX East, Wizards of the Coast will have Magic 2014: Duels of the Planeswalkers available for demoing.
