GamesIndustry.biz wrote an interesting editorial yesterday that claims that Tencent has given up on Arena of Valor – at least in the west.
This follows on from the news that Tencent has disbanded the marketing team that was responsible for pushing the game in the US and Europe.
Arena of Valor in the west has made in a year what it makes in a day over in China
This decision was made, in part, due to the fact that the game has only managed to make about $3 million in its first year. That’s how much the Chinese version, Honor of Kings, makes in a day.
So while the game isn’t getting shut down just yet, it’s unlikely that we’ll see any more content updates or advertising. It will simply exist until the inevitable shutdown.
It’s well worth reading the full GamesIndustry.biz article, as there’s plenty of interesting stuff in there.
You can grab Arena of Valor right now on Google Play.
