Arena style spell fighting game Runic Rumble arrives on Android

For those of you who have been following the site for awhile now may remember a long, long time ago we were talking about an MMORPG called Runes that has apparently started back up development. It featured a unique gameplay mechanic where casting spells was done by drawing rune shapes on your screen.

Runic Rumble by Epiphany Games employs a similar mechanic where you have to draw the runes symbol on the screen in order to cast your spells in this arena style fighting game. You will be playing as Aki who, upon rummaging around a campsite, ended up angering an Entity who then whisked him away to another realm where he is pitted against other monsters for the amusement of other Entities. You, at least, know what symbols to draw in this game whereas in Runes you had to memorize your spells.

Spells are based off of the elements and you can pick up to four to take with you, from any of the available elements, when going into battle. Your goal is to beat your opponent by continuously casting spells and, hopefully, doing enough damage to win. You not only have damage spells but healing and defensive spells at your disposal. You don’t begin with all 24 spells either and instead you will slowly unlock more as you become more powerful.

On the flip side of things, you can’t just cast spell after spell in quick succession. Aki is a novice and hasn’t mastered how to handle the strain of doing that so when you cast spells too fast, Aki will lose concentration and the rune shapes you have to trace with your finger will move around unpredictably until he regains himself.

There are a total of 20 levels right now and various challenges as well. For those of you looking for something a little different, you might want to try this game out. Runic Rumble is available off of the Google Play store for $3.13. You can check the game out in action in the video below.
