Broken Sword – Shadow of the Templars: Reforged is finally here. If you’re familiar with the original 1996 release or the Director’s Cut that was released in 2009, you’d probably know what the game is about. Keep reading to find out what’s new in the latest version.

Broken Sword has been Reforged

Broken Sword – Shadow of the Templars: Reforged strips away the added chapters from the Director’s Cut. So, the added Nico chapters that were introduced to give her more agency aren’t there anymore. She’s back to being a secondary character who occasionally shows up with useful items.

The new version instead focuses on a high-definition remaster of the original story, featuring upgraded visuals in full HD and 4K with enhanced audio. It’s optimised for Chromebooks with mouse and keyboard support. It also supports external controllers.

Broken Sword: Reforged plays fully offline, includes Google Play Cloud Save. There are no ads or in-app purchases, just a one-time purchase. Right now, it’s available at a 30% discount for launch for $6.99 instead of its usual $9.99.

Played the Original?

If not, here’s the story. It starts in Paris, where American tourist George Stobbart witnesses a bombing at a café. A clown with a briefcase sets off a chain of events.

The events lead George and, later, French journalist Nico Collard, to travel across Europe. They dive into a tangled mess of conspiracies connected to the Knights Templar.

The core of the game is still its classic point-and-click mechanics. You explore locations, talk to eccentric characters, collect random objects, and use them in slightly confusing ways to solve puzzles.

Some of these puzzles are clever and satisfying; others might be a bit more frustrating. Some areas won’t offer a solution until you’ve visited another part of the map first.
