Classic turn-based strategy game M.U.L.E. to get new life with new Kickstarter project

Another day and another classic game might be getting new life pumped into it thanks to a new Kickstarter project that fired up a few days ago. The classic 1983 turn-based four-player strategy game called M.U.L.E might be coming back in the form of a tribute game appropriately named Alpha Colony: A Tribute to M.U.L.E.

While this isn’t an official sequel to the classic game, it is a tribute to it, bringing it back to life in a more modern style. Considering that we are reporting on it, you have probably already guessed that one of the two games will be coming to is Android. For those of you who don’t know about M.U.L.E., it was a great turn-based strategy game where four players try to colonize a planet. This is done by using Multiple Use Labor Element to harvest food, collect energy, and mine minerals. The goal? To build the greatest wealth. Of course you have to have a successful colony to accomplish this.

Currently being developed by DreamQuest Games, their new Kickstarter project will be offering up two games for the one Kickstarter, both of which are M.U.L.E. games. One will be a faithful recreation of the original M.U.L.E. game for mobile which will be called M.U.L.E. Returns, while the other game is Alpha Colony: A Tribute to M.U.L.E, the modern tribute of the original game.

M.U.L.E. Returns Features:

– Android, iPad, iPhone mobile platform support
– Social gaming integration, including Apple’s Game Center
– Fast paced and challenging game play
– Three difficulty levels
– Easy one-handed navigation
– Downloadable 8-bit skins

Here is the unfortunate part of this news though. While the recreation of the M.U.L.E. game, called M.U.L.E. Returns, will be arriving on Android if funding is successful, the Alpha Colony tribute game will not be coming to Android, only iOS and PC/Mac. However all is not lost. If funding is successful, DreamQuest Games does have stretch goals at the ready which includes bringing the Alpha Colony game to other mobile platforms which most likely means Android.

Currently sitting at just over $26.5K in funding, DreamQuest Games is looking for a total of $500,000 for their campaign to be successful. If this were late last year we would be a bit shocked at that amount but considering how successful recent campaigns have been, $500,000 goal isn’t unheard of anymore. So while this is a bit of a double edge sword in terms of news, hopefully this gets funded so we can at least get the original M.U.L.E game on Android although the Alpha Colony tribute game would be nice too.
