Cope-com unleashes their split-screen retro shooter called Battle Squadron ONE

Back in December of 2011 we talked about a game that was currently being developed by Cope-com which would be a split-screen retro style shooter for Android called Battle Squadron ONE. Well for those of you who have been waiting for this game, it was released the other day onto the Google Play store.

Cope-com has dubbed this game the worlds best retro shooter, which back in 1989 it was. Since its release onto mobile (iOS and now Android), it has gathered quite a lot of positive reviews from other sites for the most part. If you were playing games back in 1989 then you already should have fond memories of Battle Squadron ONE on the Amiga.

Battle Squadron ONE Features:

– (World Premiere) 2-player split-screen on Android tablets: play with, or against your friends
– Open Feint Achievements: 36 in total to earn
– Open Feint Leaderboard updates with player comments (through Internet link)
– Several control options, including new 2x direct touch
– 4 fantastically detailed levels to fight your way through
– Scores of different enemies… watch out for the predator-like ones…
– 4 highly diverse “bosses” to defeat
– 24 different weapons (4 types of 6 grades each) + Nova Missile
– 4 different difficulties (“Squadron Leader” is exactly like on Amiga)
– New über-difficulty mode: “Air Commodore”… with surprise ending
– Plays on Android 2.2 and up (tested on many devices)
– And loads more…

The interesting feature about this game isn’t so much that it is a recreation of the original but the fact that it comes with split-screen multiplayer for Android tablets. Instead of using bluetooth / local WiFi or some other means to play with another person, both of you can play using the same device at the same time. The screen splits into to so you each have equal real estate to play with. Hopefully this doesn’t end up in some freak tug-o-war event when the gameplay gets hectic.

While the split-screen feature is only for Android tablets, you can play in single-player mode on all Android devices. Fans of retro shooters can download Battle Squadron ONE off of the Google Play store as well as our synced up catalog for around $3.90.
