Electronic Arts has announced during an interview with Polygon that they will be bringing a new Ultima game to the world but for mobile gamers to enjoy. The top-down dungeon crawler will be arriving with a ridiculous amount of content and gameplay time along with both online and offline gameplay available.
This new Ultima game will be based off of the Ultima 4 battle system which, for those of you who haven’t played Ultima 4, is basically a real-time action combat system versus any sort of turn-based one. The online gameplay portion of Ultima Forever: Quest for the Avatar will consist of co-op battles where players can team up to take down stronger enemies.
Visually speaking, Ultima Forever: Quest for the Avatar will consist of a blend of 2D and 3D visuals. Combat effects, characters and monsters will be rendered in 3D while the environment will be render with 2D graphics. In terms of content and gameplay time, during the interview with Polygon the game’s producer mentions that getting to level 15 will take around 200 hours and that finishing everything should take around 400 hours of gameplay time.
As you are probably guessing with EA being the publisher, Ultima Forever: Quest for the Avatar will be free-to-play, with everything content-wise being available without having to spend any real money at all. However, if you want the best items in the game you’ll have to fork out some real cash for that. The system follows something similar to what you find in a few Mobage games when it comes to the IAPs.
Chests are available and need keys to open. The better the key that you use to open the chest with, the better the loot you will receive. Bronze keys drop randomly in game, silver keys can be made by combining bronze keys, and gold keys will be available through IAPs.
Ultima Forever: Quest for the Avatar is slated for release onto iOS and Android last this year, with iOS getting the game first and Android getting it shortly afterwards.
