EA releases Tetris Blitz onto Google Play in a location specific soft launch

EA has released the newest iteration of the Tetris franchise onto Google Play called Tetris Blitz. While the game has launched on both EA accounts (the North American and International ones that is), it appears that the game is currently undergoing a bit of a limited release in terms of who can download the game.

Tetris Blitz is basically like the original Tetris game but on steroids when it come to the power-ups and bonuses you can get to boost your score. The main game mechanic is still the same, placing blocks at the bottom of the screen in the hopes of creating a solid line horizontally. When that happens, the line disappears. However, with the new power-ups, players can create combinations of them to use to really pump up your scores. EA plans to release new power-ups every week as well.

There is also a new Frenzy mode which can be activated and you can maintain this mode by clearing lines back-to-back. Frenzy mode offers up double points while you’re in it. Tetris Blitz also comes with ‘Finishers’ and ‘Bonus Blitz’ which are basically like a finishing move in a brawler but instead of a puzzle game, essentially clearing the board and earning you bonus rewards.

Overall it is just Tetris with a bit of a twist to it. When it does get a full release, Tetris Blitz will be available for download for free. So far early word on the street is that Tetris Blitz is rather heavy on the optional IAPs as well. If you can download this game, let us know what country you’re from in the comments below.
