Look, there are loads of battle royale games on the Play Store. Some of them are good, some of them are bad, but the vast majority of them are basically indistinguishable from one another. So when one comes along trying to do something differently, we’re going to take notice.
Farlight 84, which has just gone into soft launch in a bunch of different territories (Indonesia, France, India, Russia, Brazil, and Australia to be precise), certainly looks the part. There are shades of Apex Legends and Borderlands in its post-apocalyptic design. Okay, so far so good.
The game also offers a new kind of battle royale, with players taking on the role of hunters or prey. The games are short and sharp too, with scraps taking just four minutes to complete. Might be a bit too short, but it might make things incredibly exciting.
There are certainly some interesting ideas here, and the game is set to launch on mobile and PC next year. Is it going to be any good? Well, that sort of depends on a lot of things – player-base, how well it controls, and its monetization to name just three.
We’d say we’re cautiously optimistic about this one, and that it’s definitely on our ones-to-watch radar. If you want to find out more about Farlight 84, you can click here to visit the game’s official website.
Is there space for another battle royale game on mobile? Do we really need another post-apocalyptic shooter? The proof will be in the pudding, or the playing. But if Farlight 84 gets things right, it could be a real gem.
