Foretales is a new adventure game on Android with narrative-heavy deck-building gameplay. Released originally in 2023 for PC by Alkemi and Dear Villagers, it’s getting published by Plug In Digital on mobile.
It’s Cards, Choices and Consequences
The game is set in a world where every card you play could decide the fate of entire kingdoms. Unlike typical roguelikes or grind-heavy card games, Foretales focuses on storytelling and exploration.
You play as Volepain, an anthropomorphic shoebill thief. Grim visions haunt him after he retrieves a magic item for a client. Stepping into his shoes, you ought to make tough decisions that ripple across branching paths and multiple endings.
You’re dealt cards based on the special abilities of Volepain and his companions. You must solve puzzles and win turn-based card battles.
Foretales fuses resource management with strategic card play, asking you to handle dilemmas through diplomacy, stealth, or combat. You’ll solve puzzles, sneak past guards, or charm your way out of trouble while keeping an eye on your resources.
Fame and infamy play big roles in the game. Your good deeds can make people trust you, or perhaps your dark reputation forces enemies to run away. You might even use items like a stolen warrant to scatter bandits without drawing your weapon.
Foretales features a fully voiced cast of characters with charming hand-painted visuals that look like an illustrated storybook. The world feels alive and whimsical, which you can take a look at yourself below!
