Is Netflix Working On A GTA Mobile Game?

The image shows an ongoing heist in the GTA V game. Three charatcers are wearing all black body suits and holding guns. In the bottom right I slipped the Netflix logo for relevancy.

Netflix has let slip that they are in talks with the developers of GTA to possibly release a short game on the streaming platform. We all know Netflix as the streaming titan which houses many series under one monthly subscription for you to binge over and over again. However, in recent years, Netflix has partnered with select titles to bring games to the platform for you to enjoy.

The Crossover

The Wall Street Journal (Hidden by paywall) details how in pursuit of more games on the platform, Netflix aims to strike a deal with Take-Two to bring a fresh GTA game to mobile through the streaming service. This certainly switches up from current titles held by Netflix such as Card Blast and Solitaire. Of course, with over 50 games currently nestled into the streamer, there is a lot of genre variety, but nothing quite as expansive as the Grand Theft Auto universe!

Within The Wall Street Journal article, there isn’t any mention of how this ambition is progressing for Netflix. However, GTA hasn’t shied away from mobile gaming in the past with their Chinatown Wars game. So it isn’t entirely out of the picture. The main concern is the profits, naturally, as Netflix hasn’t quite made a stand in the gaming empire just yet with the current games under its belt.

Will It Happen?

Nothing is confirmed right now, as it stands Netflix hasn’t quite paved its way as a hybrid gaming platform. However, hope isn’t lost as statistics show that Netflix games were downloaded 30 million times within September 2022. This number then exploded only a year later in September 2023 with a whopping 70.5 million downloads.

Maybe all Netflix needs is the push from a massive ever-growing franchise. Fully solidifying its roots as the trusty streaming-mobile-gaming platform. Of course, GTA would fit that criteria wonderfully and help Netflix in that endeavor.
