Feral Interactive has dropped a free update with a Contracts mode for Hitman: Absolution. The mode used to be a big deal in Hitman back in the day, especially before user-generated content became the gigantic thing it is now.
So, it’s back again as an asynchronous cross-platform multiplayer feature
The Contracts mode turns regular story missions into custom assassination puzzles in Hitman: Absolution. You can enter any Story mode location, pick from the game’s huge collection of NPCs, and mark up to three people as targets.
Each level is divided into smaller sub-locations. There are certain possible conditions, such as Undetected, Only Targets Killed, All Bodies Hidden, No Disguise Changes, and No Missed Shots.
After that, it’s up to you how you want to carry out the kills. You can choose specific weapons, disguises, and approaches, and all of that becomes part of the Contract rules for everyone else who attempts it later.
What’s interesting is that your own performance becomes the benchmark. If somebody else wants the full payout from your Contract, they have to match or beat the way you played it. You can use the rewards to unlock extra weapons and disguises for future Contracts.
The game also tracks scores through online leaderboards, both for individual Contracts and broader rankings. Who’s the deadliest or richest assassin? Feral says there’ll also be a constantly refreshed list of Featured Contracts.
It’s not a hi-fi level editor or anything close to modern creator tools, but there’s still something cool about the simplicity of the mode. Contracts mode is now available for free to all Hitman: Absolution players on Android. So, grab the game from the Google Play Store if you haven’t already.
