Hungry Horrors is an upcoming quirky roguelite deckbuilder from Clumsy Bear Studio, a UK game studio. With a unique twist, you don’t fight monsters in this one but instead cook for them and satiate their hunger. Hungry Horrors has just dropped its first playable demo on Steam as well.

After PC, Clumsy Bear Studio is bringing Hungry Horrors to mobile and consoles too. They haven’t unveiled any official release date yet, but you can check out the demo on Steam, Itch or GOG. The devs have been taking part in a lot of community events, like showing the game at the London Game Festival 2025.

The Steam demo of Hungry Horrors is giving a solid taste of what’s coming. There are two handcrafted biomes, six hungry monsters to serve, two boss fights and four NPCs to chat with. There are also some non-combat zones like the Nook and the Trove where you can regroup and tweak your menu.

Take a peek at the game below.

More About Hungry Horrors

In the game, you’re a princess tasked with cooking traditional British and Irish dishes to keep folklore creatures from tearing you apart. The game blends deckbuilding with food, and it’s weirdly brilliant.

With a retro pixel art style and gothic vibes, the game’s highlight is probably it’s humour. You’re cooking up stuff like Bara Brith and Cranachan, trying to match each monster’s picky preferences.

Some of the creatures have been freaking people out for centuries. Like Jenny Greenteeth, the swamp witch with a taste for blood. Or Black Annis, the hag who snatches kids with her iron claws. If your dish doesn’t hit the spot, you might be on their menu next!

You’ll be figuring out what each monster likes and hates. You’ll meet legends like Grendel and Redcap with their weird cravings. One might love sweet treats, while another might gag at the sight of fish.

The deckbuilding part fun too. You’re combining ingredients and using utensils like spices and herbs to boost your meals. You have to be strategic, balancing out flavour profiles and planning your dishes.

As you progress, you’ll unlock more recipes and ingredients. Along with that, you’ll get your hands on legendary artifacts and rescued familiars. Head over to their Steam page to check out the game.
