Do you remember Hytale? It was a project started by Hypixel Studios back in 2015. Yeah, that was a decade ago! Hytale was later swept up by Riot Games when they fully acquired the studio in 2020. Unfortunately, they cancelled the game in June 2025.

But now it’s back!

The game has now returned to the hands of its original creators. Hypixel co-founder Simon Collins-Laflamme revealed that he has bought Hytale back from Riot Games. He described the moment as a new and exciting chapter for everyone involved.

The team is now fully independent, personally funding development for the next 10 years. They’re also shifting back to the Legacy engine shown in the original trailer to prioritise faster progress and immediate playability.

Although the studio hasn’t provided a firm early access date yet, they say it will be announced in the coming days. The first version will launch on PC, and other platforms (including mobile) will arrive much later.

To describe the game, it’s a sandbox game with the momentum of an RPG. You’ll get to explore a procedurally generated world full of dungeons, secrets, and creatures, then shape it block by block.

At launch, the focus will be on Exploration Mode, Creative Mode, and modding. Other features like Adventure Mode and Minigames will come later, with a dedicated team handling the latter.

According to the devs, modding is essential for the survival of Hytale. Early access will launch with broad modding capabilities, both for content and server-side customisation.

They need community participation to bring Hytale to completion

That includes playing early access, reporting problems, offering honest feedback, building mods, and sharing knowledge. So, let’s hope they drop the early access version soon so that we all can try it out!

Here’s the trailer of the game, in case you forgot it! You can learn more about it on the official website.
