Catan Dice Game by Ridgeline Apps

One of my favorite board games is Catan.  Over the years, the makers of Catan have created different variations of the game and one of them is a single player dice game. Well today’s app review is covering the “unofficial” electronic version of the Catan dice game. It is not clear if there will be an official version of the dice game coming out.

Catan Dice Game is for one player and is a relatively quick game. The game last 15 rounds. Your goal in the game is to build as much Knights, Roads, Settlements, and Cities. For each turn you can roll the dice up to 3 times. Now the dice do not have numbers but Catan resources: sheep, wood, grain, clay, iron, and gold. You can use gold to trade resources. For each turn you build something, you get points and at the end of the game a total score is generated. Since this is a one player game, the goal is to see how good of a score you can generate.

Overall the game play is smooth and the graphics nice. It is not a bad game and is one most Catan players would enjoy.

Dice with Buddies by Scopely

Name: Dice with Buddies | Developer: Scopely | Category: Casual | Players: 1 | Version: varies | Size: varies | Price: Free / $1.99 |

One of my favorite games as a kid was Yahtzee. There are a number of different version of the game currently on the market. Well Dice with Buddies is a social version of game Yahtzee. When you log into the game, you create an account and then challenge others around the world to play. I like the game a lot. It is fun, casual game where you do your turn and then wait for your opponent to finish his. The game has push notifications (that really work) so you know when it is time to roll.

The graphics and game play are nicely done and you can have multiple games going on at one time. There is a paid version of the game, that I assume has no ads but the market page does not say anything. I tried the free version and it is FILLED with ads. Holy cow! There are tons of ads. I understand the need for ads but I think it is a bit over board. This is the only negative thing I have to say about the free version of the game.  So if you enjoy social games and Yahtzee then this is just what you need.
