Larry the Squirrel’s Play Corner: A play on Words

One of my favorite types of games is word games and there are plenty of them in the Android market. Today I have two relatively new ones for all you wordsmiths out there. So get your Dictionaries and Thesauruses ready if you snag either of these games off of Google Play.

WordStorm by Sean O’Connor

Name: WordStorm | Developer: Sean O’Connor | Category: Brain and Puzzle | Players: 1 | Version: Varies with device | Size: Varies with device | Price:  Free / $3.11

The objective of Wordstorm is to find the 35 common words with the letters given. Pretty easy right? Not really!  The letters are presented to you in an octagon -8 sections with 1 letter each and 1 letter in the center. When creating words you can only use a letter once and you have to include the letter in the center! So you have 9 letters total and each word has to be 4 letters or more. No hints, no timer.

When you first turn on the game there is a calendar, because each day will give you a different set of letters.  Now you can go back in time but not forward. When you complete a day or give up, it will show you the percentage you got right. I am averaging 40%.  With the pro version, you can also play a random game.  The game is very challenging and I love the idea that each day is a new puzzle. So if you think you can spell, give Wordstorm a try.

Shuffle 5 by Jaxel Studios

Name: Shuffle 5 | Developer: Jaxel Studios | Category: Brain and Puzzle| Players: 1 | Version: 1.2 | Size: 6.9 MB | Price: Free |

Shuffle 5 is another fun word game we you are given 5 letters and you need to spell a word  before the timer goes off. The game comes in 7 different languages and 2 game modes.  The 2 game modes are Survival – where you need to solve each word in under 20 seconds and Countdown – where you need to solve as many words as you can in 3 minutes. The game plays well in both small and large screens.

I found the survival mode tough, maybe the pressure of racing against the clock. I did better on the Countdown mode. The game boasts over 45000 words and it ran smoothly on my phone. I like the game and it is very easy to pick up and play. I recommend Shuffle 5 for those who like fast games.
