Lineweight is the next game from acclaimed developer Cipher Prime, a studio that has earned plaudits on mobile with beautiful, inventive games like Splice, Auditorium, Fractal, and Splice.
The game is a “living book” narrative adventure set across five chapters, each of which draws on a real life experience with its own emotional subtext. The gameplay will see you swiping the screen to reveal chunks of text, abstract imagery, and audio clips.
In the world of film Lineweight would be called “oscarbait”, and it’s already snagged a few awards at the Inigo Awards 2019 and Indiecade 2019 while still in development, including golds for interactive design and book design, and a silver in the mobile games category.
It’s not entirely clear how Lineweight’s gameplay is actually going to work at this point, but Cipher Prime has revealed that every “moment, word, and image is controlled by your swipe, marrying storytelling and graphic design”.
It sounds interesting, though it doesn’t really sound like a game. You’ll be able to try Lineweight out for yourself when it hits the Google Play Store on October the 13th.
