Love and Deepspace is stepping up its security measures in China with a face verification system launching in April 2025. Yeah, I know it sounds a bit intense. And if you’re wondering what it means for the global version, I have news on that too.
Why Is Love and Deepspace Adding Face Verification?
Well, it’s actually not a big deal for Chinese players as China already has strict real-name authentication for online games. It’s to stop minors from playing games that are rated 18+ since Love and Deepspace is rated 18+ in China.
It’s a part of China’s broader effort to curb gaming addiction in minors under the Minors’ Protection Law. The country has been tightening its grip on the gaming industry for years. They have measures like strict playtime limits for minors: 90 minutes on weekdays, three hours on weekends and so on.
Games also have to display ‘Healthy Gaming Advice’ before players even start, reminding them to take breaks and not overdo it. Facial recognition is already a big part of daily life in China apparently where they use it for security purposes in airports and banks.
What Does It Mean for Us?
For players outside China, it probably won’t change anything as the verification systems are specific to China’s regulations. Love and Deepspace is still rated 12+ in most global app stores, so I don’t see any face verification system getting added to it even in the future.
