HandyGames, the studio behind Wreckfest and Way of the Hunter: Wild America, is bringing Maneater to mobile. Originally developed and published by Tripwire Interactive, it’s a single-player, open-world action RPG. Or as the developers like to call it, a ShaRkPG!
A villain being born
Maneater has a story. It’s about a female bull shark who starts life as a tiny pup, fighting to survive in the wild waters of the Gulf Coast. The game follows her quest for vengeance against a fisherman named Scaly Pete, who killed her mother and left her disfigured.
Playing as the shark, you go on a rampage of revenge and eat your way up the food chain. You grow stronger, faster, and deadlier with every bite. It all takes place in the Fawtick Bayou.
The game’s world has seven distinct regions. There are murky bayous, industrial docks, resort beaches and the open ocean. Each area has its own ecosystem, enemies, and hazards, along with a full day-night cycle.
You’ll encounter a variety of threats, including rival apex predators and human hunters. There are reckless drunks with harpoons and heavily armed Coast Guard units. The goal is to evolve into a legendary apex predator capable of taking on anything that crosses your path.
Maneater Mobile is narrated by Chris Parnell, known for his roles in Rick and Morty, Saturday Night Live, and 30 Rock. The game is set against the backdrop of a reality TV show with a darkly comedic tone.
As you progress, you’ll hunt humans, devour wildlife, and scavenge for shark loot to unlock different upgrades. You can turn the shark into a bioelectric terror, a stealthy shadow predator, or an armoured tank built for destruction.
When is Maneater coming to mobile?
It’s launching on December 15th. The mobile version will offer a Try & Buy option before you can purchase the full game. Pre-registration is now open on the Google Play Store.
