Remember Mighty Doom, the 2D endless runner based on the Doom series? Well, it’s preparing to shut its servers down soon. Developed by Alpha Dog Games and published by Bethesda Softworks, the game was soft-launched in April 2021 and released worldwide in March 2023. So, why is it pulling the plug so quickly? Keep reading to find out.

It’s A Wrap For Mighty Doom!

The game is calling it quits on August 7th, 2024. The decision comes following the shutdown of operations of Alpha Dog Games, the developer of the game. It seems like the shutdown of Mighty Doom is part of a larger picture of layoffs. Along with Alpha Dog, other game studios like Arkane Austin, Roundhouse Games and Tango Gameworks are also shutting down.

The details of the layoffs are still a bit murky. However, it’s clear that the gaming industry is also taking a hit with all the job cuts. Despite all of this, Microsoft hasn’t delivered an official statement yet about Mighty Doom’s shutdown. Maybe it’s a strategic move to shuffle resources around or to clear the way for big hits down the road.

Did You Make Any In-App Purchases?

All in-app purchases in Mighty Doom have already been turned off. If you’ve recently bought something in-game, the developers have arranged for refunds to be issued. Just be sure to follow the steps outlined in the official tweet to get your money back.

Have you played the game yet? If not, let me give you a quick lowdown. It’s based on the Doom franchise, which is a series of first-person shooter games hailed as one of the pioneers in the genre. The game lets you take on the role of the Mini Slayer and fight off swarms of demons and zombies.

Mighty Doom is an extensions of the brand outside of the main series, offering a different take by adapting the franchise into an arcade-style, top-down shooter. If you haven’t played it yet, you still have time till August 7th. So, grab it from the Google Play Store and give it a try!
