Pokémon Meets Monster Hunter in Supercell’s Upcoming MMO, Mo.co

A Founder wielding magic in upcoming Supercell MMO, Mo.co.

I nearly jumped for joy when I read this news. Supercell is working on a Pokémon-like MMO for Android, Mo.co, which will enter a beta phase at the end of October.

The best part? The beta is exclusively for Android users. Take that, iOS! Sadly, you do have to be based in the US to take part, though perhaps you can get around that using a VPN.

Not that we’d ever endorse such a thing, of course. Ahem.

How Can I Sign Up For the Mo.co Beta?

If you want to take part, simply head on over to the official site and enter your email address. You also have to select your device type from the dropdown, but it just lists Android and iOS rather than specific handsets.

Remember: it’s Android-only. iOS will likely get a beta in the future, but for the October playtest you need to be on the better platform. That’s just the way it is.

What’s Mo.co?

So, the official website is very light on information. It reads like a job ad, quite frankly, but I’ve gleaned a bunch of information from it.

You play as a monster hunter, who joins the eponymous team mo.co. Alongside those and, presumably, other players, you will slay monsters and explore a variety of dungeons.

As you progress, you will loot a bunch of gear, including weapons and armour. This may function like Monster Hunter or Diablo. It’s not clear at this point, but I’m happy either way.

Lastly, there are a variety of worlds to explore, all of which draw on a different theme. Again, it’s unclear what the worlds will draw inspiration from, but it won’t be long till that beta and we can find out.

So I Can’t See the Game in Action?

Actually, you can! Supercell has released a super short teaser trailer that shows a glimpse of the gameplay. It shows a group of players taking on a series of bosses, avoiding attacks.

I even saw a bit where a player was running away from a fire breath attack, with a red cone indicating the damage zone. That’s an MMORPG staple, and it made me happy.

Moving forward, we saw a player picking up a very dangerous-looking baseball bat inside a Pokémon-like house. I’m hoping this is pointing towards a housing system of some kind.

The Visuals Are Nice!

Yes, it really does look like a next gen Pokémon game. It’s Fortnite-like cartoon visuals that look great but should have no problem running on any modern-ish device.

That’s all I know so far. Tune back in later in October for more information when the beta drops. Or, if you’re looking for something to play right now, check out our best new Android games this week feature.
