Yesterday we reported on Gameloft, who has teamed up with DC Comics and Warner Bros. Games, in order to bring the official The Dark Knight Rises movie tie-in mobile game to Android and iOS. Along with that was the first teaser trailer that had been released. Now we know just a little bit more about this upcoming game.
We may not know a whole lot more about The Dark Knight Rises even with this new information but at least we can get a better sense of what to expect with this game. So what do we know now that we didn’t yesterday? Well for starters The Dark Knight Rises will be an open world style game. If you are not sure what an open world game is, think of Grand Theft Auto III. You will be able to run around as you please in Gotham, beating up the bad guys, regardless if you are on a mission or not.
For those of you already gearing up to dish out the $6.99 for this game when it lands on the Google Play store, you might want to put those wallets away. It seems as though this could very well be released for free and instead supported through in-game payments as new information seems to be hinting at. This is something that Gameloft has mentioned earlier this year that all of their titles released this year would come with. This could also apply to the upcoming Amazing Spider-Man game as well.
The question now is, if The Dark Knight Rises does indeed come with in-game purchases and is a freemium game, will this ruin what could be a spectacular game? We will have to wait and see. We won’t have to wait long though as this game is slated for release later this Summer, probably around the time the movie hits theaters July 20th, 2012.
