Out Now: Boogey Boy: Goon Studios Shines a Bright Light with a New Infinite Runner

Goon Studios, based in Pasadena, California, is a game development studio to follow. Their game Boogey Boy, has jumped into the Play Store. It is a colorful, action-filled, platforming game that will easily draw you into its clutches.

If you were ever afraid of the dark as a child, you will easily identify with the theme behind this game. Goon Studios has taken a mythical creature in the Boogeyman and created a 3D-side scrolling infinite runner that you should try out. Can you escape the Boogeyman?

“Plunge into your nightmares and maneuver through the domain of the boogeyman. Perform jumps, collect stars and activate power ups to dodge and defeat oncoming enemies. You’re never safe when the boogeyman is hot on your tail. One missed step and you’ll be trapped forever in a nightmare! Armed with a flashlight, you must collect batteries to scare the boogeyman away.” – Goon Studios

The visual design for the game is appealing and the music is splendid. The opening video for the game reminds me of a scene from Monsters Inc. It totally sets the stage for what is to occur next in the game, running for your life. The environment for Boogey Boy has a lot of things happening all at one time. The backgrounds are fantastic pieces of moving art. If you focus on it it too long though, you will not survive. Your character, a scared little boy, is trying to obtain batteries. If he gets three batteries, he completes the stage and defeats the Boogeyman. There are five stages in the game. In those stages, there are stars, power ups and keys to be found. Once you complete a stage in the Story Mode, the accompanying arcade level is unlocked. The goal is to get the highest score possible as you collect stars in the Arcade Mode.

Boogey Boy Features:

  • Story and Arcade mode
  • Play story mode to escape and defeat the boogeyman.
  • Play arcade mode and go for the high score.
  • Make your way through five wild, whimsical stages.
  • The stages are random every time. Every play is new and exciting.
  • Activate powerful abilities
  • Defeat the monsters of the night with five different power-ups.
  • Use power-ups to change the way you play!
  • No in-app purchases.

Goon Studios has created a really good game. If you check out their webpage, they mention that they are gamers and that one of the reasons they created their studio was “… to create games without any in app purchase.” It is obvious to me, that after playing Boogey Boy, Goon Studios is comprised of a really talented group of people. If you enjoy endless runners/platform type games, Boogey Boy is well worth the asking price of $1.99. There are no other in-app purchases within the game. This too, is a rare feat in the gaming industry these days. Currently, Google Game Play Services is not integrated into the game. Adding achievements and leaderboards through Google Play, would be a wonderful addition to the game. There is a built in leaderboard for the game, but it only lists the leaders on your specific device. Check out the video trailer to see what you will have to do to escape the Boogeyman.
