PAYDAY: Crime War Is Finally Out On Android

It’s finally here. After a long wait, the heist game PAYDAY: Crime War is available globally for Android devices and with controller support too.

The PAYDAY franchise doesn’t need much introduction, but if you’ve missed the masked menaces’ previous outings, we can give you the lowdown. In PAYDAY, you take on the role of one of a cooperative squad of mask-wearing criminals and hire yourself out to complete high-stakes heists on a contract basis.

You have choices as far as how you approach a contract. You can try to approach it with stealth and subtlety, or you can bust in and shoot everyone looking at you funny. Both are equally valid choices.

A Long Time Coming

The first title, PAYDAY: The Heist came out in 2011, and its sequel, PAYDAY 2, was released in 2013.

Seems like a long gap between releases, right? Well, PAYDAY: Crime War’s first teased all the way back in 2016. A closed beta kicked off in 2018. Then, disaster.

The then developer, Overkill Software, announced that it had ceased development of the title. It seemed like the end of the line for a mobile PAYDAY, but then in 2021, the company PopReach picked up Crime War, dusted it off and started preparing for a new release. Two years later, here we are.

Some Welcome And More Dubious Additions

The new title has all the aspects that you might expect from a PAYDAY game. There’s a co-op with the option of voice chat. There are robberies.

Crime War adds a much-requested 4v4 PVP mode, the ‘Crime War’ of the title. What some might feel less hype about is that it also adds rather a lot of potential microtransactions. Such is the double-edged sword of free-to-play.

If you’re sold on this after what you’ve heard, you can check the game out now on Google Play.
