Prime World Defenders looks to breath life into the Defense genre

Developers going by the name of Nival have a fair amount of titles planned for Android and one of those titles, called Prime World: Defenders, looks to breath some much needed life into the Defense gaming genre that has slowly grown a little stale over the last little while. That isn’t to say there isn’t good defense games available.

Prime World: Defenders will be released on a multitude of platforms including PC and mobile (iOS and Android). This particular game is based off of the upcoming PC multiplayer strategy game Prime World although Prime World: Defenders will also land on PC as well. Prime World: Defenders will actually work in conjunction with Prime World but how that integration works remains to be seen until both games are released.

The main draw to this game are the graphics which, on mobile, resemble the PC version a lot. A lot of the assets come directly from the PC version actually including the monsters you will be shooting and the towers you build. This particular defense game also has the enemies not only needing to get past your defenses but get back out, escaping with your ‘Prime’ which is basically your main energy source. There are games already out on Android that come with this sort of tower defense gameplay such as Tower Raiders 2.

All of this doesn’t happen on one set path either. While the monsters can come in on one path, they are not forced to take the same path back out while trying to escape with your ‘Prime’ and can opt to take a different route out. This means you will have to spread out your defenses a lot more strategically. You will also have to deal with enemy buildings which, when destroyed, supply you with addition currency for upgrades.

Like any good defense game, Prime World: Defenders will come with multiple difficulty and gameplay modes for it’s 20+ levels. One happens to be called Portal mode where you have to do the usual task of destroying enemy waves but on top of that you will have to deal with portals that pop up randomly on the playing field that spawn large demons that you will have to take down as well.

Prime World: Defenders will be a free-to-play game which will come with completely optional in-game purchases. Nival has stated that these purchases are there purely as an option in case you need extra help and that it won’t restrict the gameplay at all if you choose not to buy anything. Currently Prime World: Defenders is slated for release onto iOS, Android, PC and Mac later this year.

Screenshots are from the PC version of Prime World for reference until actual screenshots of Prime World: Defenders is released.
