A VR headset for the Samsung Note 4 phone was announced, in partnership with Oculus VR, the company behind the Oculus Rift.
Named the Samsung Gear VR, the virtual reality headset is an attachment to the Note 4 smartphone, and runs off the phone’s hardware. A developer version of the device is being released this October with the “Innovator Edition” being released in the fall for VR enthusiasts. The Gear VR has multiple apps preinstalled including Oculus Home, which grants access to the Oculus store, along with Oculus Cinema, a video app that allows for 360 degree videos. Despite all the device’s advancements, Oculus acknowledged the challenges ahead including problems with heat and battery usage.
