Shadowrun Online Kickstarter update, reveals pay model and prototype in-game footage

Last week we found out that a new Kickstarter project had been started for a second Shadowrun game except that this would be a cross-platform MMORPG title playable on tablets as well as your PC. Well the developers behind it have posted an update revealing not only the pay model for the game, fashioned after Guild Wars, but some prototype game footage as well.

The pay model for Shadowrun Online MMORPG will be pretty much the same as how the Guild Wars titles do theirs. You will have to buy the game once (or pledge $25 or higher on Kickstarter) and that is it. You will be able to pay as long and as much as you would like without having to pay anything else like monthly subscription fees. A bit of a bold move since not a lot of MMORPG titles have been successful with that pay model outside of the Guild Wars series. There will be a free-to-play model as well for those who don’t want to buy the game.

The second part of the update is the unveiling of some prototype in-game footage. The entire MMORPG will be developed using Unity3D which is one of the reasons we will be able to play it on our tablets. After seeing the prototype footage, which you can watch in the video below, Shadowrun Online is looking quite promising. Everything is rendered in 3D and in a sort of top-down isometric point of view.

We mentioned in our previous article about Shadowrun Online that it would stick close to the pen and paper game in terms of functionality and we can see that in the preview video with tactics-style movement with your character which also means combat will be fairly close to a turn-based system.

As of right now the project is almost a quarter of the way funded, sitting at a little over $121K with 20 days to go to meet their $500K funding goal. Now with some in-game footage available for viewing, there should be a surge in funding.
